Before Completion Text

You arrive in the port town where the Soldier is said to be. You search the pubs, the brothels, the docks, and every other corner of the city, but you do not find him. As the sun begins to set, you spot a hunched figure in a back alley. He is sobbing.

You approach him. He looks up, hooded beneath a cloak and reeking of booze. It is him, the Soldier. You ask what is wrong.

“My brother is dead.”

Shock runs through you. How? Wait. Was he not already dead? A ghost? Confusion tightens in your chest. You remember meeting their father once, deep in a place of ice. He knew what they had done, the disgrace they brought upon him as a commander of the Federation Army. But as you recall, he only cast them out. He suffered for their sins, for their treason, and for their acts against God.

You try to comfort him, but you do not know what to say or do. Still, you tell him the Wandering Merchant said the mirror might help him see the truth. You pull it from your bag.

For a moment, he stares at it, then at you. He takes the mirror and studies his reflection. Seconds stretch into hours, maybe days, as he stares into the glass.

“Just me. My reflection...”

He hands the mirror back. You take it and look at your own face. Then the surface ripples.

You see it.

The Soldier and his brother.

He leans in and sees it too. Horror floods his expression as he snatches the mirror and hurls it down the alley. It shatters.

“ENOUGH!” he screams.

You rush forward and pick up the broken mirror. Shards glitter everywhere.

How will you fix this now?
